Chair-Sherry MacLeod

Sherry grew up in St.Peters, Cape Breton in an entrepreneurial family where she still resides today. Her family has been involved in several small town businesses including a drug store, hardware store, laundromat, video shop, and more. She enjoys the rural community lifestyle, people and values. Her first business was in cosmetology; running this for 13 years before obtaining a brokers license and purchasing a real estate company; later expanding with a mortgage brokerage and additional offices servicing rural Cape Breton.

Sherry is an active volunteer. She is a director with St Peter’s Economic Development Organization, a founding member of the executive of Seaside Lobsterfest, was a SPEDO Tourism Committee co-chair, and she sits on the Licensing Committee for the Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission. Sherry has also been involved in fundraising for local hospitals over the years.

Selling rural real estate for more than 25 years, she has seen many rural communities populations decline. Sherry has been motivated to join the Rural Community Foundation of Nova Scotia’s board of directors, and hopes to make a difference.
