Overview
Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia (RCFNS) builds on the strengths of Nova Scotia’s rural communities by stimulating and establishing philanthropic giving, to develop a permanent endowment and to grant funds.
In the coming months, RCFNS will be seeking to add to the talented pool of people who govern this provincial organization and help guide its efforts in convening, fund-development and granting for rural communities in Nova Scotia.

Board of Directors
Directors of RCFNS meet monthly. Currently the meetings are being held via videoconference. The Board composes the senior decision-making body of the organization and operates on a governance-as-leadership model.
Key Considerations
As a Board that is representing provincial interests, RCFNS is committed to broadening the diversity of our Board of Directors. We are seeking candidates that are committed to anti-discrimination and anti-racism, and particularly encourage applications from Black people, Indigenous people, people of colour, people with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ2+ community, and those with varied areas of expertise and lived experiences. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
Priority Areas
The Board is focused on achieving the priorities of its Strategic Planning Framework. From time to time, different priority areas emerge to support key aspects of its work. This year, the Nominating Sub-committee is giving priority to the following areas:
Skills/Experience – Individuals with experience in fund development, rural philanthropy, marketing, communications.
Sub-sectors – Individuals with current or previous experience in government
Geography – Anywhere in rural Nova Scotia
Demographic background – Individuals with a variety of experience due to gender, age, and ethnicity
Call for Nominations/Expressions of Interest
RCFNS invites nominations or expressions of interest year-round from those wishing to serve on the Board of Directors or one of its Committees in the next calendar year.
