Giving Tuesday 2025: Give Where You Live

Giving Tuesday 2025 is an invitation to invest directly in the strength, creativity, and resilience of rural Nova Scotia. When you give through Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia (RCFNS), you help keep resources rooted in the communities you call home—whether that’s the South Shore, Eastern Shore, Valley, Cape Breton/Unama’ki, or our Acadian or African Nova Scotian regions.

Why Giving Tuesday matters here

On the first Tuesday after Black Friday, Giving Tuesday shines a light on generosity—urging people to support their neighbours with time, talent, and financial gifts. In rural Nova Scotia, small organizations do big work with limited resources. Every gift, from monthly donations to legacy commitments, helps ensure community strength today and for years to come.

Support community-led rural funds

RCFNS hosts funds that tackle rural priorities, from climate action and food security to inclusion and well-being. By donating on Giving Tuesday, your contribution goes straight to grant programs supporting grassroots projects, local halls, and initiatives that might otherwise be missed. Each fund is shaped by local partners—so decisions are made close to the ground and reflect rural realities like transportation, housing, and essential services.

Give more than cash

RCFNS can receive gifts of publicly traded securities, land, or other property in addition to cash—often with meaningful tax benefits for the donor. Contributing shares, land, or real estate can help launch or grow a fund in your family’s name, transforming lifelong assets into a legacy that supports rural communities far into the future.

Spotlight on equity and belonging

Some RCFNS funds focus on equity and sustainability, such as supporting rural Pride organizers, gender equity, or climate-related projects. Giving Tuesday donations help youth, Mi’kmaq, African Nova Scotian, Acadian, 2SLGBTQIA+, and other equity-deserving communities access strategic grants that fuel community events, safety initiatives, and advocacy. Philanthropy becomes partnership—donors bring resources, communities lead the way.

Create your own rural legacy

If you want a tailored impact, RCFNS can help you start a new named or purpose-driven fund for the rural causes closest to your heart. There are options for initial one-time gifts, multi-year plans, or including RCFNS in your estate so your values influence Nova Scotia’s future. However you choose to give, you help move rural Nova Scotia from scarcity to abundance, building a future where every community can thrive.
